Music for Imaginary Spaces
Music for Imaginary Spaces comes from Jordan White’s long-standing interest in the specific sounds of spaces, and the possibility of music that can exist in only one place. While looking deeper into reverb design, copying designs from old audio engineering papers, and programming extra objects for SuperCollider to make the weirdest possible reverbs, he developed a parallel interest in sacred music. As White transcribed and analysed various Orthodox Christian vocal pieces from Byzantium, Georgia and Armenia – possibly the best example of acoustic music that has to fit into a particular space – he started to imagine writing music for new, imaginary spaces.
White recorded, recomposed and adjusted various parts of the music over the course of five recording sessions in 2025. Music for Imaginary Spaces is the culmination of several years of preparation, but it’s also the first in a series of new projects. So, enjoy this album, and stay tuned!
Release coming 6.5.25 via AUT Records.
